O-R-A-N-G-E

We celebrated the colour ORANGE yesterday and everyone in the class was wearing our colour of the day.
Our orange art work involved an introduction to shading.
We sang our O-R-A-N-G-E song
(to the tune of the Farmer in the Dell),
and then we went to work practicing our new skill...

Pretty amazing work for 3 and 4 year olds, don't you think?

Fall Walk 2013

We were blessed with incredible autumn weather yesterday on our JK/SK combined class trip to the conservation area.
A trip with the SK class = double the fun!

The sun shone through the clouds and the rain stayed away.
Several parents came along to enjoy the outdoors and the beauty of God's autumn masterpiece.

The children were divided into groups, each of which had both JK and SK children.
Every group was given a list of items to find and/or collect, and most of the children found everything on the list!
I must admit, Olivia's grandpa was the hero for many of us when he spotted the fuzzy caterpillar!!!
Our walk ended with some play time at the park playground.

Much thanks to the many parents who came along, and to our wonderful EA, Mrs. VanderWier, who was also our very dependable bus driver. :)
The afternoon was filled with exercise, fresh autumn air, crunchy leaves, acorns, pine cones, smiles, loads of giggles and laughter, and much much more!

Don't those smiles say it all?!?

For the Truck-Lovers

One of the newer letter sorting packets I've made is the
"Jolly Construction ABC Sorting" packet.
(Perfect for the construction/truck lovers in my class!)
It contains sorting sheets for all the letters of the alphabet,
in the order that they are introduced in the Jolly Phonics program.

I love this simple sorting activity because it combines a number of skills: scissor, letter recognition, sorting and gluing!
It uses a great combination of spacial ordering, language, and neuro-motor skills!

This was the first time we completed the activity this year, and the children were very proud of the end result!

Some of us like the combination of messy and learning. . .

(Each sheet contains both upper and lower case letters.)

You can find this item {HERE} or {HERE}.

Pinterest to the Rescue! (Old Puzzle Help)

We have some "older" puzzles in our class that many of my students end up too frustrated to finish, so I decided to get out the permanent marker and make use of an idea that I am sure I saw on Pinterest at some point over the past year.

My students have found these puzzles irksome because there are very little or absolutely no hints or helps for putting them back together. . . so I added some letters and numbers and Voila!

They are thrilled, excited and proud of the fact that they don't need my help any more.

If they are having trouble putting the puzzle back together, they can always turn over the puzzle piece for a hint.

Win.......Win!!!

THANK YOU PINTEREST!

Awesome Autumn Art

Why do leaves change colour?
This was our topic of discussion yesterday!
After reading a great book on the subject,
we took out our scissors and glue and got busy making some new masterpieces for our art gallery!
Check it out!
