Theme Pics

Our theme for the month of June is, 

"Bugs, Insects, and Creepy Crawlies."  

The JK's are enjoying our close-up focus on these wonderful little creatures.  

I can't believe that we are going on our final class trip of the year next week!  Where does the time go?!?

We will be visiting the Butterfly Conservatory in Niagara Falls, so I thought I'd share just a few of my favourite butterfly pics that were taken there last summer.

Farm Time Activities

I'm rather excited about my newest "find", a cute pocket chart for making a "Class Quilt". 

I'm wishing I had found it earlier in the year, because it's such an easy way to make a collaborative work of art! 

Next year, I'll be doing different quilts throughout the year. 

This farm animal quilt turned out lovely. 

We recently completed a graphing activity about our favourite farm animals. The children voted for their favourite of five different animals and then we discussed and graphed the results.

On May 29th,  we spent the afternoon visiting the Huizinga Dairy farm in Wainfleet. Our hosts, Ken & Dana Huizinga, taught us about what cows eat, gave us a tour and showed us how to milk a cow.  We hand fed the heifers, cuddled some kittens, met some friendly bulls, and bottle fed a brand new baby calf that was born that morning! Before we went home, we were treated to ice cream and were given the opportunity to climb up in the tractor. We had so much fun!!! Thank-you Huizingas!!!

New Literacy Centres and Art Masterpieces

The long weekend has come and gone 

and we are off to the races in JK again! 

We began some new literacy centres today and the kids did an amazing job working together as a team to complete their activities. 

Since we've managed to march our way through the entire alphabet, we are spending the remaining weeks of school reviewing our letter sounds and learning to build blends and words.

This group put the alphabet cards in order,
then found the corresponding
capital and lowercase letter tiles for each card.

 don't begin with the letter Qq.
This activity was from Anita Bremer's "Love Letters Q and U". 

This activity involved colouring the pictures,
cutting them out and sorting
them by their initial sound.

Spring Art

This afternoon we finished a fantastic art project. During the past several weeks, all the children had opportunity to do some painting, blending colours, much like Eric Carle's wonderful artwork.

Today we cut those colourful pages in pieces and used our creativity and imagination to create some beautiful works of art.

Favourite iPad Apps

Here's my list of favourite preschool apps so far.  It is such a great way to get in some extra practice on our JK curriculum.  That being said, it is not easy sharing just one iPad in a class of 21, so if you know of anyone who has an extra iPad kicking around that they would like to donate to our class, let me know!!!
